Thursday Thoughts

I have many thoughts I could write down at the moment but for some reason I just wanted to write about music. It is interesting how music is everywhere and how it is embedded in our lives even though we might not notice it. Now that I can play my Ipod in my car I've noticed that every morning there is a song that hits it me some way.

This morning it was Assassin's Tango by John Powell (from Mr. and Mrs. Smith). Which I think it partly has to do with watching So You Think You Can Dance last night. I've loved that song every since I saw Mr. and Mrs. Smith.

Everywhere you go there is music. There usually is music in an elevator, store, office, on tv, and of course your car. One day I was walking into work with my Ipod and headphones listening to a song and it felt like my theme song for the day. It reminded me of the movie Get Smart where Agent 86 (aka Steve Carell), is getting ready for the day and walking to work with I believe an Abba song playing.

Music is such a powerful tool of emotions. Some songs make me angry (usually the loud obnoxious rock songs where they are just screaming), uplifted, happy, sad, confused, or some make me want to do better.

My brother was always into different music even though the artists weren't really popular at that time. Most of the ones he's introduced me to are popular now. Some of them are Rachel Yamagata, Diana Krall, Ray Lamontagne, Damien Rice, Regina Spektor....those are the only ones I can think of right now.

I can't pin point at what time in my life where I decided not to just listen to what everybody else was but I'm glad I did. Since I play the piano, I'm drawn to musicians who sing and play the piano like Diana Krall, John Legend, Alicia Keys, Norah Jones, and Amy Seeley (just to name a few). I love hearing unique voices and how they interpret their music.

This music video is the first time I heard of Regina Spektor and I loved the video and the song. I think the video is so creative..

There are many more songs I could share that are my theme songs some days.  W hat is your theme song today?

I love the video, I see that it's kinda old but unless someone like you posts these I would never see it, so thanks! I think it would be so fun to play in the colored stuff like they did, I just wouldn't want to clean it up.
